Such a long time…

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

It has been such a long time since I posted anything. It’s not like anyone reads these posts, though. I will post some new match reports shortly along with a few match reports I missed from last season (I wrote them and then didn’t post them).

The main reason for doing this is to provide a complete-ish collection of match reports for the team. Unfortunately, I did get behind last year and the match reports for the U6 team I coached last year will now never be complete. This should not be used as evidence that I favour one daughter over another (hear that Bridie?).

If the bible is to be believed (and it’s not) then I am middle aged today. While I don’t feel like I’m having a mid-life crisis, I could be. To summarise my life, so far: I have a wife and three kids; I don’t owe anyone any money; and today, I think for the first time ever, I bought a pair of trousers that were smaller than the ones I was wearing at the time. So far, so good.

I was on the radio!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

I got a call today from Nat of NowFM (98.3) fame. I have never listened to NowFM. In fact, I didn’t even know the station existed. He sounded like a radio person, however, so I didn’t swear at him and hang up (which is what I usually do to cold callers).

Apparently we have a mutual friend, Tim the Hippy, who mentioned to him that I would be perfect for one of the station’s Great Debates. Basically, they propose a topic and the radio personality takes one side and makes a 30 second case. The guest then has 30 seconds to make their case. The radio personality refutes the case and claims victory. It’s all in good fun.

Anyway, the topic was: That it is unethical for a vegetarian/vegan to raise their kids as vegetarians/vegans. You can see that this topic is perfect for me, being big, friendly and vegan and having three glorious little vegetarian kids. The audio of the segment is here.

I think I came off well and made my point succinctly. Apparently I get a prize pack of some sort, which is always a good thing. You can never have too many free hats, t-shirts, stickers or whatever.

Hello world!

I have finally registered my own domain name. Finally. I have been telling my students for years that they should be registering sites and then playing with them. Typically for an academic I have not taken my own advice. In my own defence I have… actually, I have no defence. None at all. And now I have no excuse.

In order to make it look like I’m contributing to this blog I will start by transferring lots of posts from my older blog, which I started on blogger.com and then promptly gave up on. No one is going to read this anyway.
